Recycling at Florida Tech

Other Ways to Help

Buy Recycled Products:

It is important to buy products made from recycled or recyclable materials in order to strengthen the market for recyclables and “green” products.  Many companies, such as Office Depot and Home Depot now have “green” catalogs containing numerous items made from recyclables or renewable resources.

Join an Organization:

There are several on-campus organizations dedicated to promoting Recycling, “green” practices and Sustainability, these include:

  • Alpha Phi Omega – Purpose: to improve the community and ourselves through service to the group, campus, community, and the nation by working on or with recycling, Habitat for Humanity, Teeter-totter, Relay for Life, and more.  Visit: http://activities.fit.edu/apo/
  • Green Campus Group – Purpose: to continually educate the Florida Tech community about the importance of sustainability and to initiate beneficial changes towards a sustainable campus.  Email: gcg@fit.edu
  • SQUAMISH - Activities include community beach clean-ups, Botanical Garden clean-ups, voter registration, and environmental awareness booths.  Email: squamishgroup@gmail.com
  • Quality of Life Committee - The QOL functions to identify analyze and provide suggested solutions for the challenges and opportunities concerning the quality of campus life for students, faculty and staff. The QOL reports to the president.  Go to: http://www.fit.edu/quality/

Encourage Reduction Practices:

Incorporating waste reduction practices into recycling efforts presents an opportunity for a large pay-off in reducing the waste before it is produced.

Recycling and Beyond:

By establishing a recycling program on campus, we hope to provide the students, faculty and staff with the opportunity to turn your concern for the environment into positive action.  Those who have previously been unaware of the need to recycle will receive a practical education on the importance of conserving natural resources, energy and valuable open space.  Our recycling program can provide an avenue for everyone to make a difference
